Tomasito García y Desensamblados— La comida está en el horno Tour
Band on the Wall, Manchester
Venezuelan multi-instrumentalist Tomasito García brings his genre-defying sound to Band on the Wall, as part of his 2025 UK tour in anticipation of the release of his new album, La comida está en el horno (“The Food’s in the Oven”).
This record continues Tomasito’s personal and exploratory musical journey—deeply rooted in the traditional rhythms and instruments of Venezuela, yet boldly expanded through Afrobeat, jazz, funk, and world fusion. At its heart is a celebration of Venezuela’s often-unknown musical landscapes—from the fast-paced, harp-driven Joropo Tuyero to the intricate and offbeat pulse of Venezuelan merengue in 5/8 time, and the intensity of Afro-Venezuelan coastal drumming. These diverse rhythms are reimagined through modern arrangements, improvisation, and global grooves, creating a sound that is both grounded and transformative.
The performance will also feature reinterpretations of songs from ‘Desensamblados’ 2016 album “… y el rumor de Caracas”, bringing new life to the group’s earlier work through updated arrangements and expanded instrumentation, bridging the past and present of Tomasito’s evolving sound.
Joining him on stage are two longtime collaborators and core members of Desensamblados:
Joel Arriaga — a Venezuelan percussionist and drummer now based in Manchester, featured as co-producer of the new album, whose deep knowledge of Afro-Venezuelan rhythms brings dynamic pulse and texture to the live show. Ulises García — a gifted multi-instrumentalist on flute, cuatro, and guitar, blending lyrical folk melodies with a forward-thinking fusion sensibility.
Their shared history and intuitive musical chemistry bring depth, colour, and improvisational fire to the live performance, bridging Tomasito’s past with his bold, creative present.
Come hungry—La comida está en el horno is ready to be served.
