Cinder
Beneath Cinder’s grunge/indie aesthetic lies a complex blend of influences that are nearly impossible to pin down. They touch on sounds familiar to anyone with an ear for alt. rock, but never quite settle into any one. While the band may not be fully aware, it’s clear to anyone watching that they thrive in this chaos—and it’s in that unpredictability where they come alive.
Cinder spent most of 2024 embracing their ghost-like reputation. At live shows, they were more than happy to make their presence known, but once the performance was over, they disappeared just as quickly. This year, however, they’re making a shift with their new material.
Claustrophobia. For the band listening back to what they’ve recorded, that is the central theme of their debut EP, ‘Vows to Boscobel’. Admittedly, there’s not a lot of sonic crossover between the five tracks, but that was never the goal. Treading the same ground seems futile, and whilst there are throughlines amongst the noise, every track easily stands on its own. There is a world that exists within this EP of discomfort and yearning, but at the forefront are strong hooks and compelling lyricism.
Cutscene
There is warmth in the dreams of the youth. Cutscene are four-piece post-punk band, drawing on lyrical inspiration from poets such as John Keats and T.S. Elliot, and writers including Shakespeare and Martin Amis.
