New York singer Kendra Morris teams up with soul-funk-jazz outfit Parlor Greens, linking sharp song craft and deep groove through a shared love of vintage soul, funk, and a hard-earned DIY spirit.
Morris draws from decades of New York sound — doo-wop, rocksteady, boom-bap, Brill Building pop, filtered through her keen song writing eye, striking visual sense, and a voice that balances grit with grace. Parlor Greens meet her on the instrumental side, moving as one: Adam Scone’s Hammond organ, Jimmy James’s guitar lines, and Tim Carman’s deep-pocket drumming shaped by classic R&B, gospel, and hard funk traditions.
Joining them is soul singer and bandleader Taylor Williams, rooted in groove-heavy R&B and funk and steeped in Southern soul and gospel. His warm, expressive vocals ride tight arrangements and a live-first approach, backed by a band that knows how to sit way down in the pocket.
Together, the music lives somewhere between handwritten songs and road-tested grooves – personal stories carried by communal rhythm, made by artists who know exactly who they are.
